Sir Trevor McDonald has revealed he is in talks with US television networks following his decision to retire from the 10.30pm ITV news.

The 65-year-old presenter, who has said he will quit newscasting next year, has received "interest" from American channels to front a series of current affairs interviews.

"I'm not really into the idea of retiring completely," he said.

"TV is in my blood. I want to do more interviews in the current affairs field. I don't want to appear immodest but I've had offers, or shall we say interest, from America."

Sir Trevor said he will continue to host the Tonight shows.
