Simply Red brought the curtain down on 25 years of music with a stunning show at London's O2 Arena.

Singer Mick Hucknall told the sell-out crowd "Good night, adios, Simply Red are no more" before the band walked off stage for the final time.

The Manchester-born star, who founded Simply Red in 1984, started the final leg of the Farewell Tour with Come To My Aid, the opening track on the band's debut album.

Hucknall, 50, went on to play The Right Thing, followed by It's Only Love, which he said was a tribute to Barry White.

The flame-haired star, who wore a purple shirt, blue jeans and sunglasses, told the audience: "I want to thank you so much for your support over the last 25 years. It's been the most wonderful ride."

He performed his brand of classic pop and elegant ballads for over 90 minutes alongside a six-piece band in front of tall red drapes and lights.

The gig was broadcast live in more than 70 cinemas around the country and many across Europe.

Since their first tour in 1985, Simply Red played over 1,100 shows to more than 11 million people.

The band sold 55 million records worldwide, and enjoyed success in the charts with 31 UK Top 40 singles.

Hucknall recently took the place of Rod Stewart in a series of comeback concerts by 1970s rockers the Faces, and will now pursue a solo career.
