A fitness instructor has become the second contestant to be evicted from the new reality game show that sees competitors deprived of sleep.

The Channel 4 show Shattered features contestants trying to stay awake for seven days to win £100,000, with their every move being filmed by cameras.

Eight people are left vying for the prize after 33-year-old Salma Faraji was forced to leave the show after failing to complete-an elimination challenge. She follows former air stewardess Ellen McCarthy, who was evicted from the programme yesterday.

Participants have begun to experience side-effects such as hallucinations, memory loss, incoherence and loss of time perception-They have been subjected to daily "endurance challenges".

But the show has faced criticism that it could be dangerous, with the programme's medical experts calling for naps to be introduced after the reports of hallucinations.
