Prison sentences don't affect only those behind bars - they are also hard for loved ones left on the outside. Visits are perhaps only 20 minutes long, and often take place in crowded rooms, knocking any chance of privacy on the head.

This documentary follows three cases: Darren, an alcoholic gambler, and his partner, Rubina; arsonist Dave, whose partner Becky has just given birth to a son; and Claire, who is bringing up her daughter, Lia Jade, behind bars.

The film-makers examine whether family relationships can survive when one member is locked up, and also ask whether maintaining family ties can combat recidivism.
