Former England footballer Peter Crouch has admitted he once didn’t buy model wife Abbey Clancy anything for Christmas

The footballer and pundit, 42, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday with his wife, 37, where they discussed the festive disaster.

Clancy said she had replied “nothing” when her husband had asked her what she wanted for her Christmas present – but didn’t realise he would take it so literally.

She explained: “One year I said, ‘Oh nothing' when he asked me what I wanted but, like, I didn’t mean it.

“It’s just a typical girl thing to say. Then I woke up that year on the naughty list, I got nothing!”

Crouch added: “'It is very hard to interpret the coded message!”

The couple – who share four children, Sophia, 12, Liberty, eight, Johnny, five and Jack, four – are known for discussing their spats and discussing their family life on their popular Therapy Crouch podcast.

On the show on Tuesday, they also shared some fun anecdotes about how they first met.

Recently, the model – who has been with the former footballer for nearly two decades – confessed she finds it hard to “keep the spark alive” with Crouch.

In an interview with new! magazine, she also spoke about how she would love for her husband to contribute more to the running of the home.

She said: “Pete and I have been together for nearly 20 years, and it’s hard to keep the spark alive.

“Like any couple, we have our niggles. You can slip into your roles of cooking and cleaning and you need to break that cycle.

“I’d love it if Peter was more domesticated but I’ve given up and he leaves me to do the cooking and cleaning.”

Earlier this festive season, the couple and their children visited Lapland UK.

Clancy wore a Santa hat as she posed for pictures with her family at the attraction, which opened earlier this month in Swinley Forest, Berkshire.
