The nominations for this year’s Academy Awards are about to be announced, with films including La La Land and Arrival expected to lead the way.

After a stellar year of cinema, the main contenders already seem set in stone, with Damien Chazelle’s LA-set musical set to make a clean sweep.

The 2017 nominations announcement will take place via a live stream at 8.18am ET in the US and 1.18pm in the UK.

Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson and Cheryl Boone Isaacs are among the stars revealing this year’s shortlist live at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.

The announcement will be broadcast live on Good Morning America and live streamed across the globe.

With nominations across 24 different categories, the 89th Academy Awards are expected to honour this year’s biggest films, including La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester By The Sea and Arrival.

Musical La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, broke the record for the most wins by a single film at the Golden Globes last month.

While Chazelle picked up the award for Best Director and Best Screenplay, both Gosling and Stone took home the top acting prizes.
