Matty Healy has announced that The 1975 will go on an “indefinite hiatus” after their tour ends next year.

The British group’s world tour, Still… At Their Very Best, is scheduled to finish in late March 2024 in Amsterdam.

On Tuesday, the band was performing at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, when Healy, 34, made the announcement towards the end of their set.

In footage shared to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Oh Caroline singer told the crowd: “It’s wonderful you’re all here.

“After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.”

Following his statement, the audience can be heard booing in response.

The Standard has contacted The 1975’s rep for comment.

The band’s previous At Their Very Best tour was praised for its innovative staging which featured a multi-levelled set designed like a 1990s-style home.

However, it also made headlines after frontman Healy performed bizarre antics including completing a series of push-ups and eating a raw steak live on stage.

Elsewhere, it was revealed lawyers for the band were working to resolve a dispute with organisers of a Malaysian music festival that alleged the band breached its contract.

During their set at the Good Vibes festival in Kuala Lumpur in July, Healy made a speech about homosexuality, which is illegal in Malaysia, and kissed bassist Ross MacDonald on stage.

The three-day event was axed and headliners Australian singer-songwriter The Kid Laroi and American rock band The Strokes did not play.

Event management company, Future Sound Asia, demanded that the band pay over £2 million in damages due to Healey’s “indecent stage behaviour” allegedly causing the event to be cancelled.

The Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Digital also said The 1975 had been blacklisted under a body that oversees foreign artists playing in Malaysia.
