Most visits to Margate start with the beach of golden sand with its Kiddies Corner, bouncy castles, boating pool and donkey rides. All are a stone's throw from arcades and ice-cream parlours on the seafront. Margate has a special claim to fame - it is where the first Victorian bathing machine was dragged down to the sea.

Away from the beach there is Margate's famous Dreamland Fun Park with its amusement, dodgems, loop rollercoaster and ghost train. Nearby there are clifftop walkes and hikes that can take you on the Isle of Thanet's Cliftonville, Broadstairs - with its Dickensian connections - and Ramsgate, all with their own particular seaside attractions.

How to get there:

By road:
There are excellent road links to Margate and the Isle of Thanet resorts. From the M25 it is an hour's drive down the M2 to Thanet Way.

By rail:
Frequent services form London's Victoria Station.
