Usher swept the board at one of America's biggest music awards. Just days after picking up eight Grammy nominations, the R&B superstar collected 11 Billboard music awards in Las Vegas.

They included artist of the year, R&B/hip-hop album of the year for Confessions and the Hot 100 single of the year for Yeah featuring Lil John and Ludacris. The 26-year-old singer opened the show by dropping from the ceiling on a cord and performing Bad Girl while beautiful women in white parkas and snow boots gyrated around him.

Usher, whose album sold more than one million copies in its debut week, also had a big night at last month's American Music Awards.

There were four Billboard awards for Kayne West to add to his 11 Grammy nominations - the most for any artist this year.

His award for rap artist of the year was presented by Britney Spears making her first public appearance since her wedding to dancer Kevin Federline this summer.

Alicia Keys picked up seven awards at the MGM Grand hotel.

Among her prizes was the title of female artist of the year, R&B/ hiphop single of the year for If I Ain't Got You and Hot 100 songwriter of

the year. Group of the year went to OutKast, while a new award, ringtone of the year, was presented to rapper 50 Cent for In Da Club.

Soul legend Stevie Wonder was presented with a lifetime achievement award and Diana Ross sang to him in tribute. Destiny's Child were given an artist achievement award.Ashlee Simpson, sister of US reality TV star and singer Jessica Simpson, was met with boos and cheers as she accepted the female new artist of the year award.

Nelly, Green Day and Gwen Stefani also performed at the awards, which are determined by Billboard magazine's yearend chart listings, based on record sales and airplay.
