Gary Glitter has allegedly paid the families of two young Vietnamese girls accusing him of rape to drop the charges.

The shamed former pop star, 61, held on child sex offences, is said to have handed them £1,175, three times the average annual wage, to escape the death penalty.

Glitter is said to have taken advantage of a law which permits reduced sentences if compensation is paid and victims plead for leniency.
