Ed Sheeran stunned fans by getting behind the till to serve them at a Lego store.

On Saturday, the 32-year-old put in a shift at the Mall of America in Minnesota, signing Lego boxes and handing out gifts to several unsuspecting fans.

Sheeran was seen wearing a bright yellow apron and a Lego-branded t-shirt as he greeted star-struck fans.

At the end of his “shift”, the singer treated fans to an acoustic version of his hit song Lego House, which was released over 10 years ago on his + album and featured Rupert Grint in the music video, in a small cordoned-off area in front of the store.

After the stint the star, who was on his Minnesota leg of his world tour, posted a clip of his day on Instagram and captioned it: “Went to the Mall of America today to work in the LEGO store / hand out LEGO sets and sing Lego house. LEGO!”

In the video, one fan checking out at the counter said: “Are you kidding me?” as she spotted the Grammy winner behind the counter. “My daughter’s gonna freak out.”

When asked about his favourite Lego set, Sheeran is also seen pointing to a knight’s castle and said: “Me and my brother had a tiny wizard set.”

But this isn’t the only unexpected venue he’s cropped up at recently. In a Nashville pub he got up and started singing his rendition of Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way, and in Pittsburgh, he played the role of a pizza delivery guy.

Sheeran is reportedly weeks away from launching his next album, only three months after the release of Subtract.

Following his Lego gig, The Shape Of You singer, who is coming to the end of his Mathematics world tour teased fans at his Minneapolis gig by playing three songs from the upcoming record.

A source told The Sun: “Ed is going to be dropping a brand new record next month. "It’s going to be massive for his fans, who’ve never had him drop two albums in a year before.

“It’s a massive change for him, as for years he has followed the traditional path of releasing a major album then going on tour.

“Now he’s going to drop the album to give fans something to look forward to after he wraps up the Mathematics tour next month.

“He has started testing out the material on fans at recent concerts and the reaction has been incredible."
