Music superstar P Diddy took to the stage last night in his first concert in the UK for five years.

P Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, flew into Scotland yesterday for the gig in Glasgow.

The 40-year-old, who grew up in New York, looked around Glasgow yesterday and spoke with fans and posed for photos earlier today in the city.

Around 1,500 people were thought to be at the gig at The Old Fruitmarket.

Tickets were free for the show on a first come, first served basis after fans applied on the MTV website.

P Diddy was performing with his new group Diddy-Dirty Money for the MTV Crash Glasgow night. As he stood on stage he was flanked either side by fellow band members Dawn Richard and Kalenna.

As he took to the stage just after 9.45pm, he said: "Hello Glasgow. We are gonna have a good time here."

As the crowd cheered, he said: "How do you all feel down there?"

He also said: "Thank you Glasgow for having me."

Flower of Scotland, a song considered to be Scotland's unofficial national anthem, was played after P Diddy took to the stage. The rapper urged the crowd to sing along.

The group performed tracks from the yet to be released album Last Train To Paris.

Support acts Skepta and Jodie Connor also entertained the crowd earlier this evening.
MTV, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) and EventScotland worked together to stage the event.

Kerry Taylor, senior vice president content and creative, MTV Networks UK and Ireland, said: "Glasgow is the ideal destination for MTV Crashes. The city's legendary venues and thriving music scene have already led to Glasgow being hailed as Europe's secret capital of music by Time Out and combining that with the unprecedented kudos that the MTV brand delivers will make this a gig to remember."

Cllr Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "GCMB has worked in partnership with MTV and EventScotland over the past 18 months and are delighted that this Triple-A American star has been secured for Glasgow.
"Having an act of the magnitude of Diddy-Dirty Money performing in Glasgow not only represents a major coup for the city but also reinforces its style credentials."

In typed notes handed to journalists today, Kalenna said: "Dawn and I aren't background singers simply standing next to Diddy.
"Diddy-Dirty Money isn't just more of the same. It's an organic group that grew out of a shared passion for music."

A "behind the scenes" programme from the visit to the UK and the performance, titled Diddy Crashes Glasgow, will be shown on MTV at midday on Saturday.

Footage of the show will also be broadcast on October 8 at 9pm on MTV.
