She has already played a young Margaret Thatcher and now up-and-coming Alexandra Roach has been cast as a teenage Queen Elizabeth in a forthcoming film.
The 24-year-old Rada graduate is to play the monarch in a fictional love story set on VE Day that sees the then princess romanced by a working-class Cockney lad.
After working with Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady, Roach will be channelling another great actress, Dame Helen Mirren, whose Oscar-winning act in The Queen will be one to follow.
Titled Girls Night Out, the film is inspired by real events. The Queen has told how she and her sister Princess Margaret sneaked out of Buckingham Palace and walked incognito through the crowds in The Mall to celebrate the end of the Second World War.
Roach, from a Welsh mining valley, has an ear for accents and has been studying footage of the young princess. She said in a recent interview: "My ambition is to become an actress that is like a chameleon."
The film is directed by Michael Hoffman and produced by Ecosse, who made 2007's Becoming Jane with Anne Hathaway and 2009's John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy.
