World Book Day: David Walliams honoured with bright yellow postbox in London

David Walliams has been honoured with his very own postbox to celebrate World Book Day.

The comedian and author became the recipient of a bright yellow postbox outside the Natural History Museum on Thursday, in celebration of his hilarious children’s books.

The box is decorated with pictures of Walliams’ characters as well as quotes and excerpts from his books, which include The Ice Monster.

Walliams’ box sits in Kensington, outside London’s Natural History Museum, which is referenced in the book.

“I am an advocate of letter writing. Letters are so much more meaningful than a text or email,” the Britain’s Got Talent judge said.

“So I hope this encourages children to use their local postbox.”

Walliams joins famous authors Judith Kerr and CS Lewis who have also been bestowed boxes to celebrate their works.

The Secret Garden author Frances Hodgson Burnett also has a postbox in her name in her hometown of Manchester while Kerr’s is in Barnes. Lewis’ postbox is situated in Belfast.

World Book Day, an annual celebration of literature, was marked across the country on Thursday with children dressing up as their favourite characters to head to school.

One lucky year group were given the chance to appear alongside Holly Willoughby on This Morning, reading a passage from one of their favourite books .
