The great and good of the acting world will be honoured at the 88th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.

Stars will take their seats inside LA’s Dolby Theatre for the biggest night on the showbiz calendar.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of the ceremony:

When and where is it?

The Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 22. Red carpet gets underway at 4pm (midnight GMT) with the ceremony scheduled for 5:30pm (1:30am GMT).

Where can you watch the Oscars in the UK?

The ceremony will be broadcast on TV via Sky Movies Oscar. The special channel will go live on February 22 until March 6.

Who is nominated?

All eyes will be on Leonardo DiCaprio who has been nominated for a sixth time. He will be hoping to take home the coveted Best Actor gong for his role as fur trapper Hugh Glass in The Revenant while the film’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu could make it a second year as Best Director. Brie Larson looks to be the favourite for Best Actress while The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, The Martian, The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road will compete for Best Film. Who will present the awards?

Chris Rock will host the ceremony while presenters include Sacha Baron Cohen, J.J. Abrams, Henry Cavill, Emily Blunt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Tina Fey among others. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has been confirmed for a "special performance".

Who will boycott?

The lack of non-white actors in the main categories sparked the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag. Several celebrities have spoken out against the alleged bias including Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee who have all announced plans to boycott this year's ceremony.
