Some of the biggest names in music will descend on Los Angeles to battle it out for a coveted Grammy Award at this year's ceremony.

A tour-de-force of musical talent will be honoured at tonight's bash which will see performances from Lady Gaga, Adele, Beyonce and Katy Perry.

Here is everything you need to know about the biggest night in music:

When is it?

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 12. The CBS network will broadcast the show live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. UK viewers will be able to watch the full ceremony on 4Music the following day at 8pm.

Who is playing host?

LL Cool J has handed over the reins to James Corden after five years at the helm. The Late Late Show host was picked to replace the hip-hop star following his success at the Tony Awards. Corden said he feels “incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night”.

Who will be performing?

This year’s ceremony will see a very pregnant Beyonce take to the stage, Katy Perry perform her new single Chained to the Rhythm and Lady Gaga team up with Metallica.

Other notable duets include The Weeknd and Daft Punk, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson Paak, and Alicia Keys and Maren Morris. John Legend and Cynthia Erivo will also team up to perform a memorial for the musicians who have died in the past year.

Other notable names include Adele, Chance The Rapper, Lukas Graham and Bruno Mars.

Who's on the guestlist?

Solange Knowles, Ariana Grande, SIA, Busta Rhymes, Nicke Jonas, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Jason Derulo, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Lopez, Barry Gibb, French Montana, and Little Big Town are among those expected to walk the red carpet on Sunday night.

Justin Bieber and Kanye West have reportedly decided to shun this year’s ceremony over concerns that the event isn't “representative of young singers” or “culturally relevant”. West told fans last October that he wouldn't show up if if Frank Ocean was not nominated. Speaking at a concert in California he said: “I’m not showing up to the Grammys. As artists, we’ve got to come together to fight the b*******.”

Who is nominated?

Beyonce leads the pack with nine nominations including Record and Song of the Year for her single, Formation. If she wins eight of the nine gongs she will beat Alison Krauss to become the most honoured female in the history of the awards. Drake and Rihanna have both received eight nods while Adele follows closely behind with five. Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Drake and Sturgill Simpson will battle it out for the coveted Album of the Year award.
