Olly Murs was mocked on Twitter as members of the public jokingly asked him for updates after the City of London was put on lockdown.

The Gherkin was evacuated and streets cordoned off after police received reports of a suspicious vehicle near the London landmark on Tuesday morning.

But City of London police later confirmed the vehicle was deemed non-suspicious and that the driver had been arrested for possession of false identity documents.

Murs was targeted online after previously live-tweeting Friday night’s major terror scare on Oxford Street with one Twitter user posting: “@ollyofficial apparently there’s a suspicious car parked outside the Gherkin? What's going on mate.”

Another wrote: “No doubt Olly Murs was inside tweeting how dangerous the situation was.”

A third commented: “What should we do @ollyofficial?”

Murs was accused of spreading fake news after he claimed to have heard gunfire while hiding in Selfridges on Friday night.

Armed police swooped on Oxford Street after Scotland Yard received “numerous reports of shots fired”.

Police initially said they responded as if the incident was terror related, but later said there was no trace of any suspects or evidence that shots had been fired.

The Troublemaker singer tweeted: “F*** everyone get out of @Selfridges now gun shots!! I’m inside.”

He then added: “Really not sure what’s happened! I’m in the back office… but people screaming and running towards exits!

“Evacuating store now!!! F*** heart is pounding.”

Piers Morgan lambasted him for stirring “extra needless panic by tweeting false information”.
