Venom trailer leaves fans unimpressed as Marvel releases first look at Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock
The Academy Award winning actor plays Eddie Brock, the host of an alien symbiote that gives him Spider-Man-like superpowers in the upcoming film.
The first look shows the beginning of Brock’s transformation into the anti-hero as he grimaces inside an MRI machine – but it fails to show his mutated form.
Instead fans are given a brief glimpse of the black symbiote in a jar and another of it working through Brock’s veins.
Teasing the plot, Hardy’s character can be heard saying: “Everyone’s got their thing. Maybe it’s a break-up, a death, an accident. Whatever it is, you used to be one thing – now you’re something else.”
He continues: “We all have our own problems our own issues, our own… demons.”
Fans tweeted their frustration at the lack of Venom in the teaser, claiming a flash of the character would have been enough to satisfy them without ruining the plot.
One Twitter user posted: “Surely one shot of the titular character wouldn't spoil the film. It's like having a Spider-Man trailer without said Spidered-Man turning up.”
Another wrote: “Would be nice to see the title character.”
The film also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott.
Venom is slated for UK cinema release on October 5
