Vanessa Kirby has claimed that The Queen is a “big fan” of Netflix hit, The Crown.

Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of the royal series said that a friend of hers had overhead the surprising revelation.

According to Kirby, a pal of hers heard someone admitting that their grandmother was a big fan of the show, only for that person to be revealed as Princess Eugenie.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Kirby said: “A friend of mine was at a party and didn’t know anyone, so he sidled up to this group who were talking about The Crown.

“One girl said, ‘Well, my granny watches it and really likes it’. It slowly dawned on him that the girl was Eugenie and her granny was the Queen.

“We’ve heard that Philip doesn’t watch it – he can’t be bothered.

According to Express, last year, a royal source reportedly said: “Edward and Sophie love The Crown.

“It has been a long-standing arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film.

“They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatised.”

Princess Eugenie has reportedly previously spoke about how she enjoyed watching the series, which stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith as the monarch and Duke of Edinburgh.

In an interview last year she reportedly said: “It is filmed beautifully. The music is wonderful and the story is beautiful. You feel proud to watch it.”
