David Bowie’s longtime producer Tony Visconti has apologised for suggesting that Adele digitally alters her voice.

Visconti questioned the authenticity of her singing after claiming huge numbers of musicians have their voices manipulated.

Speaking to the Daily Star he said: “You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90 per cent computerised voices.

"We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know.”

Visconti – who made the comments while promoting Guitar Star – has now apologised, saying Adele’s voice “brings pleasure to millions”.

"I’m sorry that what I said in regards to what’s being played on radio was misconstrued yet I cannot apologise for something taken the wrong way,” he told Billboard.

“If Adele has taken my comments as offensive that was certainly not my intent.

"Adele has a great voice and it brings pleasure to millions."

His apology comes days after Adele slammed his original comment during her gig at Paris' AccorHotels Arena.

Speaking to the crowd she said: “Some d******d tried to say that my voice was not me on record. Dude, suck my d***.”

Adele is currently on the European leg of her world tour which will see her take to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival later this month.
