Tom Hiddleston thinks that being in the running for James Bond is a ‘weird’ thing to have to deal with.

The British star, who is being touted as Daniel Craig’s successor, has admitted to being ‘overwhelmed’ by the rumours that are circulating.

While the actor is yet to confirm whether or not he has been offered the part, he has opened up about the mounting pressure of the speculation.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “It’s a weird thing to have to deal with.

“I’m having unreal conversations with people about this because I don’t know where the rumours have sprung from.”

He added: “It’s difficult, because everyone has very strong opinions about Bond, and who should play him. My name is just an idea in people’s minds, yet it’s becoming overwhelming.

“I have no power to stop it, but I wish I could convince everyone that the whole thing is news to me.”

Although nothing has been confirmed, Daniel Craig is thought to have turned down £68 million to return to the franchise for a fifth film.

A source told Mail Online: “Daniel is done – pure and simple – he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted.

“He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal.”

While a number of British stars, including Idris Elba and Damien Lewis, are thought to be in the running for the part, Tom Hiddletson is now favourite to land the role.

Bookmakers suspended betting over the weekend after a large sum was placed on the actor.
