Tom Hardy has reportedly been spotted shooting scenes for the new series of Peaky Blinders on the streets of Manchester, just days after apprehending a moped thief in London.

The Hollywood star gave onlookers a surprise as he was seen in between takes in the Northern Quarter on Wednesday morning.

Appearing to confirm rumours that he will be returning to the critically-acclaimed BBC gangster drama for the fourth series, some bypassers were able to snap pictures as filming got underway.

And it seems that the very fact that Hardy was on the streets of Manchester caused some serious excitement on social media.

“They’re filming Peaky Blinders across the road from work today. 400 women are currently LOSING THEIR S*** as Tom Hardy emerged for 2 seconds,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another posted: “TOM HARDY IS LITERALLY DOWN THE STREET FROM ME AND I CANT COPE #PeakyBlinders.”

As word got out, fans flocked to the streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of Hardy and co-star Cillian Murphy.

One person wrote: “*tries to casually run to NQ* "@McrFinest: Is Tom Hardy in the Northern Quarter filming Peaky Blinders?”

On Sunday, Hardy is thought to have chased down and helped snare a moped thief after pursuing him through gardens and across a building site in south west London.

A witness said the actor “switched into superhero mode” as he collared the man before checking him for weapons after the chase.

He sprinted through gardens and a building site before grabbing the thief by the scruff of the neck, and declaring, "I caught the c***," said a witness.
