Tom Daley talks proposing to Dustin Lance Black: I hid the ring in my underwear

Tom Daley has opened up about his proposal to Dustin Lance Black, telling fans he hid the ring in his underwear.

Daley, 21, had been dating Lance, 41, for two years when he decided to pop the question last September.

Recalling the moment to OUT magazine’s Feburary Love Issue, the Olympic diver said: “I had the ring box in my underwear, and when he came out of the bathroom, I just went down on my knee and proposed.

“Then he ran off to the bathroom to get his rings, and he had this whole speech prepared, but he's a writer so his was quite extravagant.”

American screenwriter Lance Black also opened up about the moment they met and the whirlwind romance that followed.

He said: “Tom had just won an award at some Nickelodeon TV show, and they were planning to celebrate, and I said, ‘I've got to go home; I have a script to write’. And Tom took my phone, and he typed his number in with a winky face.”

Daley added that they discussed tying the knot very early on in the relationship.

“Quite honestly, we talked about marriage within the first two weeks after seeing each other the first time in L.A,” he said. “That was the weird thing: that it came up in conversation so many times. I always knew it was going to happen at some point.”
