Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black have said that they want to raise their baby in the UK despite “legal challenges” they could face, according to Black.

The couple, who married in 2017, announced that they are expecting a baby together on Valentine’s Day this year.

Black told BBC Radio 5 live that they had “no choice” but to go abroad to become a family because of the complex system in the UK. However, they intend to bring their child up in Daley’s home country.

The screenwriter said: “If I ever wanted to be truly loathed by this nation, I would take Tom away from this nation.

“We would like to raise our son here and because of that we are going to face some real legal challenges.

“It would be a much easier path if we decided to raise our son in the US but this country is home for us.”

The 43-year-old added that he thought it was “wrong” that he and Daley will face such challenges to be “considered the parent of our own child”.

Earlier this month, the couple revealed that they are having a baby boy during a chat on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast.

Daley, 23, also hit out at criticism they received from some after announcing their happy news, comparing their use of a surrogate to Kim Kardashian’s gestational carrier.
