Actress Chrissy Metz has shut down reports that she called Alison Brie a ‘b****’ in a red carpet interview ahead of the 2019 Golden Globes.

The This Is Us star sparked controversy when she appeared on the Globes’ official Facebook Live pre-show and was asked by presenters to introduce Glow actress Brie as she walked down the carpet.

“Do you know a girl named Alison Brie?” the hosts asked Metz, who responded with “Do I…” as the the presenters added: “Well I hear she’s at the other end of the carpet!”

While the camera panned across to Brie, the trio’s microphones remained on and Metz could be heard repeating herself, telling host AJ Gibson: “I’m like, ‘Do I…’”

Fabricated: Metz denied the rumours in a Twitter statement

The star could then be heard saying what sounded like, “She’s such a b****,” though the audio was too muffled for her remarks to be heard clearly.

When asked about the incident later in the evening, Brie appeared confused, asking a Vanity Fair reporter: “But why? I know her. I saw her on the carpet and I told her how beautiful she looked.”

Metz was quick to shut down the rumours as the ceremony got started in earnest, tweeting a message slamming the reports that she’d insulted Brie as “fabricated.”

“It’s terribly unfortunate anyone would think much less run a story that was completely fabricated!” she wrote. “I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone!

“I sure hope she knows my hear.”

Luckily, Brie seemed nonplussed by the stories, later sharing an image of the pair posing together at last year’s SAG awards ceremony with the caption: “Nothing but love for @chrissymetz!!! Rumors can’t keep us down.”

Brie was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series at this year’s Globes, but lost out to The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan.
