A 16-year-old singer from north London will give her first ever public performance tomorrow night ahead of the Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on.

Lauren Mae Kidd won a social media talent competition for the right to join stars such as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rixton at the West End ceremony at the John Lewis department store.

Lucky winner: Lauren says she "simply cannot believe it"

Lauren, who went to school at City of London Academy Islington and North Bridge House in Canonbury will be performing the carol O Holy Night. A self-taught guitar player, Lauren went to school at City of London Academy Islington and then into North Bridge House in Canonbury for Sixth Form.

The self taught guitar player has developed her performance skills going to classes every weekend for the last four years at True Stars Academy, a theatre school set up by EastEnders actress MBE Brooke Kinsella in 2010.

Out of this world: Lauren will be joined on stage by Cheryl and Rixton

Lauren said: “I simply cannot believe it. I love all acts on the stage and knowing all my family, my three brothers, including my twin Billy and my and sister, parents, grandparents and great grandparents are watching me, amongst thousands of others, is going to be out of this world."

She added: “I often write my own songs, and have been really influenced by Ed Sheeran, as I try and focus on the story telling of the song, great vocals and guitar playing. But for the Oxford Street Christmas lights, I want to perform a classic Christmas track which is really moving so I am going for O Holy Night. I’ve been practicing it since I heard I had won on Monday – I really want to pull this off and do everyone proud.”
