Taylor Swift has given $250,000 to fellow pop star Kesha.

The Grammy Award winner made the donation as a show of ‘support’ following the 28-year-old’s court battle with producer Dr Luke and Sony Music.

While Swift is yet to release a public statement in the wake of the court’s ruling, a spokesperson for the star has confirmed that she donated the sum this weekend.

“In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” they said.

Kesha lost her bid to end her contract with Sony on Friday after a judge denied her a court injunction that would allow her to make music independently.

The pop star, who alleges that producer Dr Luke drugged and sexually assaulted her, broke down in tears as the judge read out the decision in court.

Dr Luke – real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald – denied the allegations.

New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich said: “You're asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry,

“There has been no showing of irreparable harm. She's being given opportunity to record.”

A host of fellow musicians have spoken out in support of Kesha following the ruling, including Lady Gaga and Lily Allen.

On Friday, Gaga tweeted: “There are people all over the world who love you @KeshaRose. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery.”

Lorde wrote: “Standing with @KeshaRose through this traumatic, deeply unfair time. send good vibes her way everyone.”
