Bruno Mars might be known for his super cool persona, but he is set to get a whole lot cooler when he performs at this weekend’s Superbowl.

Mars is set to brave near freezing conditions for his half-time performance at American Football’s marquee event in New Jersey this Sunday.

The weather is set to drop to three degrees as the cold snap continues to affect America and Mars is planning to “put heaters everywhere” to ensure the cold does not affect his performance.

Asked if there will be any surprises in his set, he replied: "It's cold, that's the surprise. It's like the microphone turns into a Popsicle. We're getting some heaters on everything."

Performing alongside the Grenade singer will be the ironically named Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who promise to add a bit of fire to the icy cold weather.

Explaining his reasons behind the decision to choose the Chillis as co-performers Mars said: "They're a soulful band, not just musically, but as people."

Previous Superbowl half- time performances saw Beyonce wow crowds last year, The Rolling Stones bring the roof down in 2006, and Janet Jackson’s memorable wardrobe malfunction when performing with Justin Timberlake in 2004.
