Alexandra Burke has come under fire after she was pictured wearing real fur, years after posing naked for an anti-fur campaign.

Burke, 29, was branded a “fake” and a “hypocrite” after she stepped out in Blackpool wearing a Canada Goose jacket which features real coyote fur as a trim on the hood.

Burke previously stripped off to lend her support to a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign, which many have now accused her of fronting for publicity.

The black and white shoot saw her posing alongside the caption: “I'd rather go naked than wear fur.”

Following the pictures of her wearing a Canda Goose jacket, one user tweeted: “How thoughtless Alexandra Burke. Finally respected you for your PETA support but not if you don't believe in it. @alexandramusic #strictly #PETA.”

Another wrote: “Alexandra Burke....poses for PETA anti-fur campaign then proceeds to wear a real fur trimmed coat. Disappointing.”

A third commented: “Alexandra Burke is a #fake, she was seen tonight wearing fur on her jacket #CanadaGoose. Clearly only did the PETA thing just for PR.”

Burke later apologised, claiming she was unaware that the jacket she wore was made from real fur.

“I’ve just learned the sad truth of how a coat I wore recently was made. I am an animal lover, as most of you will know I have 4 dogs.

“I should have asked how it was manufactured and now I know, I will never wear it again. I am really sorry for any hurt or upset I have caused xx”

Burke will be looking for as much public support as possible after she found herself in the dance-off during this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing results show.

The former X Factor winner, who was the favourite to win the BBC ballroom show, failed to impress viewers with her Rumba with partner Gorka Marquez.

They were saved unanimously by the judges who opted to send comedian Susan Calman packing.
