Stevie Nicks was left red-faced after she accidentally introduced One Direction star Harry Styles as a member of NSYNC at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

The 70-year-old rock icon spoke fondly of Styles, after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, in front of press at the event.

She said: “What I really loved about Harry was that when he decided to make a solo record from NSYNC…”

Quickly correcting herself, she added: “Sorry, not NSYNC. Sorry. I’m never going to live that one down, I know. One Direction. I liked One Direction, too.”

Nicks went on to praise the star on his self-titled solo album, released in 2017, and commended him on delving head-first into the rock genre.

“When Harry decided to make a record he could have gone one of two ways,” she said. “He could have made a really serious pop record which would’ve been much less a risk or he could make a rock and roll record and take a risk as he did.

“I went to the Troubadour on one of the first nights and he absolutely played the songs from that record and it was like this beautiful child should’ve been born in 1948 too because he just fits in with all of us.”

The hilarious slip-up was well-received on Twitter, with some users joking that if Nicks thinks the singer is from NSYNC then “we adjust”.

One user wrote: “If Stevie Nicks says Harry Styles was in NSYNC then harry styles was in NSYNC, end of.”

Another added: “Stevie is 70. If she says Harry is from NSYNC then we adjust to the queen.”

“Stevie NSYNC-zoned Harry”, mocked a third.

Nicks and Styles stole the show after he filled in for the late Tom Petty to perform hit Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around at the showcase.
