Stephen Fry was all smiles as he dined out with husband Elliott Spencer, days after going public with his cancer diagnosis.

The pair enjoyed a lunch date over the weekend at Amici Trattoria in Los Angeles.

The couple were pictured deep in conversation as they ate out in the sun after enjoying a spot of shopping at the Glendale Galleria.

Fry recently praised his “marvellous” husband after announcing the news that he underwent surgery for prostate cancer last month.

In a 12 minute video posted to his website he revealed how he underwent an operation to remove his prostate and 11 lymph nodes, and is now waiting on test results in the hope of being given the all clear.

Fry revealed he was diagnosed with the disease just before Christmas after visiting his doctor for a flu jab before being sent for an MRI and a biopsy that uncovered the “aggressive little bugger”.

Speaking about the operation, he said: “In the first week of January, I had the operation, it seemed to go well.

“They took the prostate out, and eleven lymph nodes. It was an aggressive little bugger.

“It’s a bit of a business having an operation like that, there are five holes punctured in you, it’s like being stabbed five times.”

The comedian and presenter said he wanted to deal with his diagnosis in private as he wanted “to get better without strangers”.

Although he won’t know the overall outcome of the operation until his PSA (Prostate-specific antigen) levels are checked, he assured fans: “For the time being I'm fit and well and happy.”

Fans inundated Fry with messages of support including show bosses at QI, which Fry hosted for 13 years, who tweeted: “Sending lots of love and support, from everyone at QI. X.”
