Daisy Ridley stole the show at the London premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The British star, who plays lead character Rey in the seventh film in the franchise, wowed in a cut-out black sequined gown at the epic European opening in Leicester Square on Wednesday night.

Despite having jetted straight from the LA premiere just hours before, the 23-year-old admitted to being incredibly excited to be back in her hometown.

Speaking to Jim Chapman on the red carpet, she said: “It took many, many hours to look like this.

“For me this is extra special because I'm from London. May the Force be with all of you. Yes!,” she shouted before heading inside.

Carrie Fisher decided to bring her pet dog as her plus one to the event, posing on the red carpet with him.

“I've never felt more relaxed in my life. I come here to just be myself and just feel real,” she told the crowd.

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill, who reprises his role as Luke Skywalker, admitted that he also had a strong connection to London.

He said: “I'm overwhelmed. It's hard to believe the hype after all these years.

“I have a very special affinity for London as my son was born here when we were filming The Empire Strikes Back. My little UK baby.

Londoner John Boyega also seemed excited to be back in his own town after the LA premiere.

He said: “I'm a boy from Peckham and I'm in a Star Wars movie. Look guys, I'm here to celebrate, dammit. This is Star War,s people. This is the biggest franchise of all time!"

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in cinemas nationwide on December 17.
