Mark Hamill may have revealed the fate of his Star Wars character, Luke Skywalker.

Hamill, 64, appeared to suggest that the Jedi Master will bow out of the franchise after Episode VIII.

The actor made the comment during an interview with The Kinks’ Ray Davies at a Big Issue event.

Speaking to the audience he said: “I finish Episode VIII, and then I’m out of work.”

Hamill’s comment could mean he won’t appear in Star Wars: Episode IX.

The actor had a minimal role in Episode VII and was seen for a matter of seconds standing on a cliff edge with Daisy Ridley’s character Rey before the film finished.

Hamill is believed to have a bigger role in the next episode, with rumours circulating that he will take part in an epic battle with Rey against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

The battle was first reported by Making Star Wars after pictures emerged showing the actors filming in Malin Head, Ireland.

Episode VIII is being directed by Rian Johnson and also stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro.

Hamill's comment comes days after it was announced that Darth Vader will appear in spin off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

James Earl Jones will return to voice the Dark Lord of the Sith who will not be the main villain. This role will instead be played by Bloodline actor Ben Mendelsohn.

Star Wars: Episode 8 is slated for UK cinema release on December 15, 2017.
