Sophie Turner has revealed she has an “urge” to join the police force after taking a break from acting to “focus on [her] mental health”.

The Game of Thrones star, 23, got candid on other jobs which have peaked her interest since taking time away from the film industry.

Speaking to Dr Phil McGraw on his podcast Phil in the Blanks, she explained: “I want to do a lot of things, and not just in the film world.

“At the moment I have a real urge to go to a police academy and become a cop. I’m fascinated by crime and why people do things and the interrogation process, and how you can manipulate your words in order to get someone to confess, that interests me.”

On taking a break from acting, Turner said: “I am actually still on my break. I took a break off work to focus on my mental health because I thought it was important.”

During her appearance on the podcast the actress told how she has suffered with depression for around five years.

She said: “The biggest challenge for me is getting out of bed and getting out of the house. I really don’t think I had any issues with it up until I was around 17 and then it just kind of hit me.

"My friends were all going to university and I was working but still living at my parents’ house so I felt very alone. It only stayed to go downhill when I started to hit puberty and I was gaining weight and there was the social media scrutiny.”

Turner added that her Game of Thrones co-star Maisie Williams was the only person she felt she could speak to about what she was going through as she is only a year younger.

The HBO show made a return to screens in the early hours of Monday morning for UK fans and pulled in a staggering 17.4 million viewers in the US, who saw the episode on Sunday evening.

Hours before the episode hit screens Turner’s fiancé Joe Jonas proved he is every bit the dedicated beau as he dressed up as her character Sansa Stark in a red wig and a blue mediaeval-themed dress in a hilarious clip.

Turner left fans panicking that Sansa may meet a brutal end in the coming episodes after she shared a snap of her character on the floor, under a blanket with her eyes closed. She did not respond to the speculation.

Game of Thrones season eight episode one is currently available to stream on NOW TV.
