Sophie Turner has blasted Piers Morgan over an article he shared about celebrities discussing mental health, calling him a “t***”.

The Game Of Thrones star, who is famed for playing Sansa Stark, lashed out at Morgan after he reposted an article about Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard claiming celebrities try to “make mental health fashionable”.

After Morgan said he “100 per cent agreed with the article”, Turner scolded: “Or maybe they have a platform to speak out about it and help get rid of the stigma of mental illness which affects 1 in 4 people in UK per year.

“But please go ahead and shun them back into silence. T***.”

Fans rushed to praise Turner, 22, on her tweet as they applauded her “dragging” the Good Morning Britain broadcaster.

One wrote: “Drag them, Queen. I got the courage to speak up about my mental health issues because people, mainly celebrities, were talking about it. And even tho some idiots think it‘s just for attention or don’t take it seriously, it really helped me to accept it as a part of me.”

Another said: “You’re completely right @SophieT. I’m not sure what they hope to achieve by this ... So many negative people in this world :(“

“I ain’t seen Sansa go off like this since she fed Ramsay to his own dogs,” joked somebody else referring to her character in the HBO hit.

In the original article, Callard, who is better known as Liz McDonald, had told Best magazine that mental health "shouldn't become like a designer handbag".

Callard, who has spoken in the past about her battle with depression, said: "Real mental illness is very dark and it takes a great deal of strength to ask for help.

“I think we are now definitely chipping away at the stigma. But we have to be careful mental illness doesn’t become like a Gucci handbag. There is a danger it can become ‘fashionable’."

Turner, who is dating musician Joe Jonas, will be back on screens in April in the final series of Game Of Thrones.

She has remained tight-lipped on what is ahead for her character but did hint at the reaction to the successful fantasy show coming to an end.

Turner told IGN: “A lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think.”
