Sophie Ellis Bextor has joked that she’s been “sworn to secrecy” over the name of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s newborn son.

The Murder on the Dancefloor singer was grilled over her friendship with the Duchess, who previously expressed a love of Ellis Bextor’s music on her blog The Tig, in an appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier today.

“We’ve said that you’re very close friends, do you know the name of the baby?” host Susanna Reid asked the star.

“Obviously but she’s sworn me to secrecy,” Ellis Bextor joked, before clarifying that she has actually only met the former Suits star “once.”

“I have met her once and I do know she likes the song [Murder on the Dancefloor], but

I’m a big disappointment if you’re looking for more,” she told Reid and co-host Piers Morgan.

She described the Duchess as “very lovely” and said that she “wish[es] them all the best with their baby.”

Buckingham Palace confirmed yesterday that the Duchess was “safely delivered of a son” at 5.26am.

Prince Harry opened up about the happy news in a statement given to a handful of reporters at Windsor Castle later in the day, telling them that he and his wife are “absolutely thrilled” with the new arrival

“I am very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning. A very healthy boy,” he said.

“Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.

“We’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so we just want to share this with everybody.”

He said that the couple are “still thinking about names,” despite having had “a little bit of time to think about it” as the baby was “a little bit overdue.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
