Sir Roger Moore has said that James Bond can’t be gay or a woman as that’s not how he was originally written.

The former Bond star, who played the iconic role from 1973 until 1985, thinks that political correctness shouldn’t be ‘pandered to’.

In an interview with Mail On Sunday, he said: “I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond.

“But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote.”

The 88-year-old added: “It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist – it is simply about being true to the character.”

Daniel Craig, who stars in new Bond film Spectre, admitted that he though Bond could be played anyone as long as the casting was ‘credible’.

When asked the same question last week, he responded: “Anything’s possible. You can do anything as long as it’s credible and it works.”

Moore recently said that he thought Craig was ‘terrific’ but a little scary in the role.

Speaking on Loose Women he said: “I think he's terrific, he's a great Bond. He looks like a killer, he really does. Frightens me.”
