Actress Sheridan Smith suffered a collapse at an exclusive health retreat where she was recuperating after taking time off from the West End stage, according to reports.

Ambulances are said to have rushed to the Champneys Health Spa after The Funny Girl star was suddenly taken ill over the weekend.

Staff dialled 999 and two ambulances attended after Sheridan collapsed there on Sunday.

It comes after the actress pulled out of the West End show due to stress.

The 34-year-old was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, according to the Sun.

She was later released and was last night said to have made a full recovery.

Sheridan Smith collapsed while recuperating at Champneys, it is claimed

A source told the paper: "Things have been looking up, but on Sunday there was a medical emergency and ambulances were called.

"But she is doing much better and it has nothing to do with stress or her state of mind."

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called just before 5.20pm on Sunday following reports of a woman in need of medical attention.

"A car from South Central Amublance service was sent, along with an ambulance which we assisted with. She was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital as a priority."

Sheridan was forced to pull out of a series of performances of the West End smash Funny Girl due to "stress and exhaustion."

Understudy Natasha Barnes stepped into the lead role and has since been lauded for her performances.

In a recent interview with the Standard Barnes said when Sheridan was away it was like "a hole in our family," adding "we can't wait to have her back."

A spokeswoman for Smith did not respond to requests for comment, while Champneys said they were “unavailable to comment”.
