Kim Cattrall has given Alan Carr her blessing to take over as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City.

Carr tweeted a picture of himself in Paris with Freddie Flintoff, Jamie Redknapp and Kevin Pietersen and joked that they were shooting a male version of the cult HBO series.

“At last, the filming for the male reboot of the ‘Sex and the City’ movie begins,” he posted. “Bagsy Samantha.”

Clearly keen to hand over the reins, Cattrall commented: “You’ll be brilliant! #PassingSamForward.”

Carr couldn’t believe his eyes, tweeting: “Wow!!!”

Cattrall recently revealed she has no intentions of reprising her role as the sex-obsessed PR in a third film.

Iconic: Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City

Speaking to Piers Morgan on Life Stories she said: “I’ve moved on, this is what my sixties are about, they’re about me making decisions for me not my career, for me. And that feels frickin fantastic.”

Cattrall claimed she had a “toxic relationship” with the other stars on set and told Piers Morgan she felt Sarah Jessica Parker, who played columnist Carrie Bradshaw, could have been “nicer”.

The pair appeared to become embroiled in a feud with Cattrall later accused Parker of “exploiting” the sudden death of her brother Chris Cattrall to “restore [her] ‘nice girl’ persona” after she sent her well-wishes in the wake of the tragic news.

Parker recently shut down claims she publicly fought with her former co-star insisting she was never unkind and has always been supportive of Kim.

“I’ve always held Kim’s work in high regard and always appreciative of her contributions,” she told Vulture.

“If she chooses not to do the third movie, there’s not a lot I can do to change her mind and we must respect it. That’s the only thing I’ve ever said about it, you know?”

Sex and the City followed Bradshaw, Jones, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) as they navigated life in their 30s in New York.

The series ran from 1998 to 2004 before the stars reunited for a movie in 2008 and then again for a sequel in 2010.
