This Morning’s Rylan Clark-Neal came close to ‘losing his This Morning job’ after Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield gave him a fright.

The TV duo decided to get back at Clark-Neal on behalf of Nicole Scherzinger after he snuck up on the X Factor judge during Saturday night’s live show.

An unsuspecting Clark-Neal was discussing his frightful prank with Wiloughby and Schofield when a coffin burst open and a man jumped out.

The Xtra Factor presenter screamed before closing his eyes and covering his mouth to stop himself from swearing in shock.

“Oh that was so close,” he said. “That could have been the end. It could have been the end.”

Willoughby said: “That was for you Scherzy. We got him back.”

Schofield – who couldn’t stop laughing – asked: “Did you nearly swear?”

Clark-Neal replied: “Four years I’ve worked to get to where I am and it was nearly all over in a flash for a Halloween special.”

He finished: “I did scare Nicole. I’ve just been repaid, she’ll be very happy about that.”

This Morning underwent a Halloween makeover on Monday morning and saw Schofield and Willoughby transform into Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz.

Schofield had stained teeth, long finger nails and wild hair as he channeled Michael Keaton's iconic character from Tim Burton's 1988 classic.

Willoughby donned a black wig, a billowing red dress and wore heavy make-up as she transformed into Winona Ryder's character.

The show was presented by Clark-Neal and Alison Hammond - who worked the cameras as Anthony and Cleopatra - for 25 minutes while Willoughby and Schofield were in hair and make-up.

On seeing Schofield - who was concerned his new talons would prevent him from takinga selfie - Willoughby said: "You look amazing and I'm slightly frightened by the fact this character has taken over you. What have you done with Phillip Schofield."
