A new South Kensington venue has become a hit with London’s A-list - before it has even officially opened.

Princess Beatrice, Guy Ritchie and Cressida Bonas are already among the regulars at Ramusake.

It is the latest venture from Piers Adam, the man behind Mahiki and Whisky Mist — Prince Harry’s favourite haunts.

Its rum and sake cocktail list aims to make the Japanese drink cool, while the menu has been created by Scott Hallsworth, former chef at Nobu. He also owns popular Japanese restaurant Kurobuta.

After a soft opening last month Ramusake has attracted guests including singer Mollie King, tennis star Laura Robson and actor Jack Fox.

The venue, which is on the site of the Old Brompton Club, seeks to follow the trend for a more casual approach to dining. Mr Adam said: “The whole way that the market is evolving, people are looking for food with a late-night bar environment.

“I don’t come from a restaurant background, but when I saw what Scott was doing [at Kurobuta] I thought it would be perfect for this site. His food — it is of the moment. He is as good as it gets. That’s what the marketplace is looking for — comfortable dining in an easy, unpretentious place, but underneath it’s as slick as any Michelin-starred restaurant.”

Mr Hallsworth’s menu includes beef fillet tataki with onion ponzu and kombu roasted Chilean seabass with spicy shiso ponzu. He said: “I’ve been dying to work on something like this for ages now. I’ve had a back catalogue of dishes that needed a home like this and when we unleash them with a touch of the Piers Adam magic, there’s going to be some seriously unprecedented late-night action going on.”

Of the cocktails, Mr Adam said: “I work a lot with drinks suppliers and rum is becoming increasingly popular. Sake is something we think people will find very refreshing — it works as a palate cleanser.”

Ramusake officially opens this week.
