Robbie Williams has admitted that he will be asking friend Gary Barlow for X Factor tips before joining the panel.

The Angels singer told of his plans to approach former Take That bandmate Barlow in hopes of some advice.

Williams also admitted that he was left feeling “incredibly jealous” after seeing Barlow do such a good job as a judge.

He explained: “Gary was an excellent judge, I’ve wanted to do this show for a long time and it’s never been right up until now.

“When Gary was on the show, I was jealous and when I saw him do incredibly well I was even more jealous because he did a great job of being a judge.”

The 44-year-old added: “I emailed him and he just sent me best wishes but I’ll know what questions to ask him [when] the audition process starts.

“So if there’s anybody’s ear that I’m going to be bending it’ll be Gary’s, also David Walliams who’s a mate of mine, I’ll be bending his ear too.”

On Tuesday, Williams was unveiled as one of three new faces to join the X Factor judges alongside wife Ayda Field, Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell.

Speaking to media, Cowell said: “We have tried to get Robbie on every show for 18 years and through Ayda we became friends.

“It all happened so quickly. They came to Britain's Got Talent one night and it all seemed perfect, they came back to my house, we had a little chat on the balcony and did the deal.

“Louis is brilliant with talent, I've seen him come to rehearsals.”
