Piers Morgan has tweeted about the new royal baby name, hailing it a “defiant two fingers to Brexit”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today ended days of speculation by revealing the name of their new baby son as Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge.

The name of the young prince, who is fifth in line to the throne, sparked an immediate Twitter storm of reaction.

Good Morning Britain presenter Morgan was quick to share his view on the royal tot’s name.

He tweeted: “BREAKING: In a defiant two fingers to Brexit, William & Kate have given their baby a French name: Louis.

“One used by 18 French kings.”

The name is reportedly in honour of Lord Louis Mountbatten who both Prince Philip and Prince Charles regarded as a great mentor.

Charles often referred to the war hero - murdered by the IRA - as his “honorary grandfather."

Mountbatten counselled Charles on a great many things, most famously his love life.

It was also Mountbatten who had arranged the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Dartmouth Royal Naval College on 22 July 1939.
