Susanna Reid was left in despair after Piers Morgan volunteered himself to go into the Brexit negotiations on behalf of Britain.

The Good Morning Britain presenter threw his hat into the ring following the outcome of the General Election which ended in a hung parliament just days before Brexit negotiations are scheduled to start.

Reid said: “Somebody has to at some stage go into these Brexit negotiations. They are due to officially begin in just 10 days time.”

Morgan replied: “It may have to be us at this rate. I’m available. We could get stuck into those Europeans.”

Clearly unimpressed by the suggestion, Reid buried her head in her hands.

Robert Peston added: “I think the issue is, could we do any worse? Probably not.”

But not everyone felt the same as Reid with some claiming Reid and Morgan “could probably do a better job of it”.

Another tweeted: “Yes go on Piers say it how it is !!”

A third even joked that entertainment reporter Richard Arnold could be “Press Secretary”.

Others took it further and called on Morgan to run for Prime Minister.

The controversial presenter ‘launched’ his bid to usurp Theresa May last month after he was pictured outside 10 Downing Street.

Morgan attempted to kick start the hashtag “PMforPM”.

He posted: “Come on Britain, ignore @susannareid100's grimace, you know it makes sense... #PMforPM.”

But many struggled to match Morgan’s enthusiasm with one claiming that they would rather “s*** in my kettle and make tea” than see Morgan running the country.
