Piers Morgan has proved he’s no Scrooge by throwing his hat into the ring for Christmas Number One.

The divisive TV star, 52, threatened to ruin the festive period by recording an album inspired by his impression of Johnny Depp.

Morgan kicked off his bid on Good Morning Britain while discussing Nick Knowles’ venture into the music business.

Morgan said: “I’m missing a trick here. Bradley Walsh, Jason Manford, Nick Knowles. I’ll do my Johnny Depp voice.”

He then proceeded to tease viewers with a taster of what they could be listening to this Christmas, before describing his upcoming album as “country meets Johnny Depp”.

Charlotte Hawkins looked less than impressed, while Richard Arnold compared him to David Brent.

After showing off his singing attempts for a second time he declared: “You know what, I think I’m going to do it. If they can all do it.”

But viewers weren’t as enthusiastic, with a Good Morning Britain poll showing 65 per cent of people would not be in favour of a Morgan Christmas album.

One viewer claimed their ears were “bleeding at the thought,” while another said they would purchase it to “scare the kids next Halloween”.

Others agreed to buy the album if all proceeds were donated to charity, with one calling for a rap battle between Morgan and his longstanding sparring partner Lord Sugar.

Another joked: “I also think Susan [Reid] singing to Piers 'all I want for Christmas is you' has to be number two (sic).”
