Peter Kay has broken his Twitter silence to announcem a Car Share charity screening, months after pulling his tour dates.

The comedian’s account had been inactive since December 13. But he returned to the micro blogging site on Thursday morning to share a link to an event at Blackpool Opera House in April to raise money for The Lily Foundation.

The tweet read: “Exciting news: A charity screening of new Peter Kay’s Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday 7th April. Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am.”

The Lily Foundation raises money for children with mitochondrial disease, a genetic condition that can present itself at any stage of life.

Kay said: “The Lily Foundation is an inspiring charity that helps to improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial Disease.

“I've had first-hand experience of the Foundation's work and I'm proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families.”

Kay’s BBC hit series Car Share starred him and Sian Gibson as colleagues John and Kayleigh who shared a ride to work.

Over the episodes, the two grew closer and closer until fans were convinced the romance would finally come to fruition.

Late last year, the Bolton-born comedian cancelled his entire much-anticipated Dance For Life tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

In a statement posted to his social media accounts, he wrote: “My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.

“I've always endeavoured to protect my family's privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I'm very sorry.”
