Pete Davidson has spoken candidly about a childhood suicide attempt following the death of his father in the 9/11 terrorist attack.

The Saturday Night Live comedian revealed that he has been “in and out of mental health facilities” since his childhood and once “tried to drown” himself.

“I tried to drown myself in the pool when I was in the fourth or fifth grade. I was trying to get my head stuck in the ladder in the deep end, so I would not be able to get up,” he told Variety.

He added: “But I’m too much of a p****, and my head is too small.”

Davidson has previously spoken about the tragic death of his father who died while working as a firefighter during the New York terror attacks.

“If my dad didn’t die, I wouldn’t be a comic. I’d be a construction worker in Staten Island or a basketball coach,” he said.

“I learned what death was. And you’re not really supposed to learn about that until high school, when one of your friends falls asleep in the garage, or whatever.”

Davidson also revealed his fears that he will lose fiancée Ariana Grande and is convinced that she is “blind”.

He said: “I’m still convinced she’s blind or hit her head really hard. Something is going to happen, and she’s going to be like, ‘What the f*** is this thing doing around?’ For right now, it’s rocking.’

The comedian proposed to the US popstar just a few weeks after they started dating earlier this year, admitting that they were hungover in bed when he popped the question.

“I didn’t want to do something corny,” he said. “We were in bed hanging, after watching a movie. I was like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It was really dope.”

Gushing over his wife-to-be, he said: “I never thought I’d meet anyone like her. I can’t even put into words how great of a person she is. I could cry. She’s the f****** coolest, hottest, nicest person I’ve ever met.”
