Orlando Bloom has declared his love for Katy Perry, saying he was “hit sideways” when they first met.

The 41-year-old actor opened up about their on-off relationship after recently rekindling their romance.

Speaking to The Times he said: “She’s a remarkable human being, actually … [I wasn’t] overly familiar with her artistic endeavours when we met. I wouldn't have imagined anything happening.

“And, you know, when you get hit sideways you get hit sideways. You don’t pick who you fall in love with.”

Bloom also opened up about their temporary break-ups, saying their hectic schedules were to blame.

He said: “She’s on tour, I’m doing a play, everything evolves. I have a lot of respect for her and a lot of deep feeling. So we will see.”

Bloom’s comments come days after Perry appeared to confirm they are back together after describing herself as being “spoken for”.

The 33-year-old singer revealed details of her current relationship status whilst shutting down questions about whether or not she’d ever date a contestant on American Idol.

Speaking to the publication, Perry said: “No, I’m sorry I have been spoken for and speak for myself.

“And I’m very happy!”

When quizzed on if she’s currently spoken for the Roar hit maker said: “Yeah, of course I am!”

The couple, who first met at the 2016 Golden Globes, sparked speculation that they were back together after they were spotted on holiday in the Maldives together and then sightseeing in Prague two months later.

In March it was reported that the duo had spent time together in Tokyo, where Perry was on the Asian leg of her Witness World Tour.

A source told People that “they both missed each other after their split”.

They said: “Their relationship seems stronger now. Orlando got sick of being single. Dating different women is not so alluring to him anymore.”
