Fame can disappoint, celebrities may be two-faced and hacks sometimes lie. John O'Farrell's expose of modern stardom may shock only those newly arrived on the planet, but long-term residents might find themselves tickled.

Jimmy, a glum EFL teacher, gatecrashes a TV host's funeral, where he poses as a hot new stand-up. The press buys it and Jimmy's "fish routine" becomes the stuff of comedy legend, despite never having been performed.

O'Farrell gets in a few good shots - there is some great stuff on our desire to seem close to the action: "Of course it was especially poignant for me. I'd been up the Twin Towers only three years earlier."

Overall, though, this is too mild to deliver as satire, and not funny enough to make up for it. Try it if you are feeling indulgent.
