One Direction only split last year - but that hasn't stopped Niall Horan from joining a new boy band.

The singer, 22, has waved goodbye to Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne to form a new group with his Soccer Aid rivals.

Horan has teamed up with Paddy McGuinness and John Bishop to perform under the moniker 'One Lad and 2 Dads'.

Bishop broke the news to fans on Twitter, posting: "New boy band - me NiallOfficial and PaddyMcGuinness - we are called One Lad and 2 Dads."

Horan will be in competition with Bishop and McGuinness when the boys square up to each other for Soccer Aid this weekend.

Horan will be playing alongside Martin Sheen, Iwan Rheon, AP McCoy, Sean Fletcher, Patrick Kielty, Nicky Byrne and Sergio Pizzorno for the Rest of the World.

Bishop and McGuinness will be joined by Jack Whitehall, Jonathan Wilkes, Robbie Williams, Danny Murphy, Ben Shephard, Olly Murs, Mark Wright and Marvin Humes for England.

The squad have been keeping fans up-to-date with their off pitch antics and have posted videos of several members falling victim to McGuinness' 'hot tea' prank.

'New boy' Tomlinson jumped out of his seat when the Take Me Out host 'spilled' the hot liquid on him during a coach journey.

Neville also fell victim to the prank and was captured squirming on camera by Mark Wright as he feared McGuinness was about to accidentally scold him with hot coffee.

The British charity event will take place at Old Trafford on June 5.

It has raised £17m for UNICEF UK in its 10 year history.

Brazilian football legend Pele will be the guest of honour at this year's event.
